I was lucky enough to get to pressure test some techniques thanks to my friend Nathan. He is a student at UW and is interested in a career in #lawenforcement. It’s refreshing to know people who want to do what we do are out there. We just have to find them!

For this exercise I worked on some top control, punch protection and weapon retention while trying to stay as relaxed as possible. Nathan is about a foot taller than me but only about 25lbs heavier. I said he could do whatever he wanted including hitting me, but I would not hit him.

The belt and vest really limit torso flexion because my mag pouches, OC spray and vest dig into my quads and torso, and the extra weight (20lbs /9kgs) really adds up towards the end. Rolling with boots on is also different from being barefoot because of the limited ankle flexion and the treads getting stuck on loose clothing. As stated before, I like to keep the back of my belt clear just in case I end up on my back.

Like most holsters, the retentions of the @safarilandgroup 6360 ALS/SLS work well against same side gun grabs, and from doing pull-ups on a holstered training gun I know that it won’t get ripped off my belt which allows me the peace of mind to work some counters. I am also using a Negative Cant Plate (NCP) by @blackboxcustoms_ and @the_theory_police secured with Safariland factory bolts. 🙏🏽🤙🏽 #police #jiujitsu #selfdefense #graciesurvivaltactics #fitness #outreach #aloha #makeadifference #trainweeklyorfightweakly #aiea #oahugrown #policeweek
