So, in today’s video I’m going to show you guys another “Day in the Class” of the Chewsters Gym, aka, Derby City MMA in Louisville, Kentucky.

You’ll be walked through our most recent Jiu-Jitsu training module, Chest-to-Chest Half Guard Passing, and even learn the submission focus for that day.

In the video you’ll see me talking crap with a bunch of my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students.

It’s all fun and games and we try our best never to cross the lines (although I can only speak for myself haha)!

A Little bit of sh** talking never hurt no one!

Also, you’ll see my students go through the drills, some live rolling, and a few other behind the scenes moments that you won’t normally find in one of my BJJ Q&A style talking videos.

What’s up guys!

So, today’s video is going to be a little different.

It’s more of a BJJ Vlog.

I’ll take you guys into one of our day-to-day Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu sessions. In this class we were focusing on smash passing in the Gi, specifically passing from top half guard.

The techniques in this video are pretty basic and build off of some Half Guard & Underhook passing techniques that we focused on in the weeks prior to this class.

You’ll get to see me teach some of my favorite Chest-to-Chest passing techniques, how to get around the Knee Shield of your opponents, some live Jiu-Jitsu rolling, and more.

The techniques in this video work well for anyone, but it’s definitely a great one if you’re a little older, a little bigger, a little less athletic, or if you just want to shut down your speedy, or leg lock heavy, opponents.

On top of all of that, the techniques in the video work well in both Gi and No-GI.

Hopefully you guys find a few ideas in the video useful and just had fun watching the vlog!

Let’s talk about the most important sub in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu: the Triangle Choke. I know it’s fashionable to say strangle now, but call me old-fashioned, I guess.

If you’re a 10th Planet head, then the Triangle is even more important because you are probably gonna be spending a lot of time working on your closed guard and Rubber Guard. The triangle is crucial to both of those games.

This is an idea that I originally took from a Jeff Glover video. These are some of the drills and ideas we worked through in class. Hope ya’ll dig.

In this week’s episode of “not the bmac show,” we got inspired by the Ellen Degeneres show. My wife, Lindsey, is obsessed with Ellen. On this show, they play a game called Taste Buds.

I was trying to think of something fun we could do with the students here at 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Decatur; just something silly and funny that could boost the atmosphere at our academy even further. We have the best Jiu Jitsu school in the world, and I love giving all of you guys a look inside our family.

So basically the way this works is I say, “Who wants to play a game to win free tuition?” We took a couple of the volunteers and basically made them eat a bunch of gross food and try to guess what it is. It was a lot of fun. I hope yall get a laugh out of this!

Baptism By Fire: Warrior Week – not the bmac show – Episode 13 – 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Decatur

It’s hard for me to describe Warrior Week (technically, I believe it’s called Warrior Evolution. But I always say Warrior Week).
Truthfully, I’m of 2 minds when it comes down to it. Part of me loves it. It’s always good bonding with my guys and lots of fun and it’s an interesting look into how far a really dedicated Brazilian Jiu Jitsu player has separated himself from the standard human being, at least when it comes to physical altercation and dealing with stress.

But, it’s also kinda hard for me. Because the objective is to break these guys emotionally. That’s what they signed up for. That’s what I’ve been contracted to do. Everyone knows that coming in.
And breaking someone is hard. Because truthfully, you just don’t know how they are gonna respond to that. And it’s not necessarily fun to push someone past their limit. All of us have stuff going on inside that no one else knows or understands. And when pressed, that can get ugly if we aren’t emotionally prepared to deal with it. Luckily, the staff at Warrior Week is ultra good at what they do and they’re supporting these guys the rest of the week with really powerful counseling and support. The objective is to leave bigger and better than when you showed up. Break down to build up kind of thing.

And it works. These guys consistently tell us that it’s a life changing experience. And so we keep agreeing to do it. And it keeps producing results.

Usually when I’m in LA for a traincation, I like to slide over to 10th Planet West LA and train with Einstein during the day. We did that every day, but what we didn’t count on was showing up for strength and conditioning.
