The Blast Double Leg is one of the more common double leg variations in MMA, and for good reason. It’s quick, requires minimal setup, and takes advantage of the high stance that a striker would have to run them over.

The main thing is being able to strike the body at the right angle with your head. Too often, I see people trying to spear their opponent, which will hurt their neck, or they face plant into their hips, which will also hurt your neck. The goal is to hit higher towards the solar plexus with the crown of your head (the same place you would hit a soccer ball). That allows your neck to be in a strong position, and apply the most torque to fold that person and run them over.

I know a lot of people who complain about shooting because the impact on their knees. Especially if you are a heavy weight or have a history of knee problems, it can be problematic. Good technique will often take care of most of these issues, but even then, there is of course some impact. Plus, dropping to your knees on the street isn’t ideal either.

Enter the Snatch Double Leg Shot or the Blast Double. A lot of great fighters have you used this variation of the double to great affect. It is faster, more efficient, and allows you to power through your opponents.

However, it isn’t always available – setting up is key. Here I talk about some of the fundamentals of the Snatch Double leg and how to prevent your neck from breaking.
