Today’s video comes as a request from a viewer named Jake.

Jake is a white belt and ask for some Arm Bar techniques that work well and are easy to learn for beginners in Jiu-Jitsu.

In this video I’ll give you guys 2 different Arm Bar techniques that can definitely help you out if you’re a white belt in BJJ (or any belt level for that matter!)

For both techniques I’ll point out some minor gripping details that I would use in both the Gi and No-Gi BJJ situations. On top of that, I will teach you some basic concepts to help you hold the position tighter and keep your partners posture broken.

I’ll also introduce some different guard variations, starting from closed guard, like the Diamond Guard, which help me secure my Arm Bars when I can’t catch them quickly & how to take advantage of common mistakes White Belts make when they’re stuck in someone’s Closed Guard.

Hopefully if you’re a White Belt, or really anyone who wants to improve your Arm Bars for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or MMA, then you found this video helpful.

Thanks for watching!

To attack from the closed guard with sweeps and submissions you need to first need to off-balance your opponent with Kuzushi. This clip is from https://www.grapplearts.com/the-gripfighting-and-kuzushi-formula-with-rob-biernacki-and-stephan-kesting/ and shows you one of the best ways to disrupt his balance, his posture and his alignment in order to set up your own attack.

Without Kuzushi just deploying ‘a technique’ at your opponent from the closed guard is unlikely to work unless he’s a beginner. After all, every technique has a counter. But once his alignment is compromised then he’s much less able to prevent the sweep or submission. Kuzushi kills the counters.

Once he’s off balance with his alignment broken he’ll be much easier to deal with. He won’t be trying to pass your guard. He’ll be so off balance that all he’ll be thinking about is recovering his position.

His frantic reactions to get back into position actually give YOU the opportunity to launch your real attack.

There’s no such thing as magic in BJJ, but properly applied Kuzushi comes pretty close.

In The Gripfighting and Kuzushi Formula you’ll learn exactly how to apply kuzushi to triple the effectiveness of your guard in both gi and no gi, against both standing and kneeling opponents, and from both the closed and open guard.

Grab the The Gripfighting and Kuzushi Formula Here: https://www.grapplearts.com/the-gripfighting-and-kuzushi-formula-with-rob-biernacki-and-stephan-kesting/

Since I saw those matches, I’ve been obsessed, and I’ve been hitting every one with this sweep.

It’s so good that I don’t even grip the cross collar anymore unless I’m working on something other than the scissor sweep.

Pulled this one out of the archives of micro adjustments.

The focus is on one of the tactics you can use when opponents pull away from a sleeve drag in closed guard. It’s not a situation to be frustrated about. In fact, their pull away can actually lead to all kinds of offensive options.

And it all starts with locking on the reverse kimura grip.

Known by many names like the Wilson pass, the Tozi pass, and the Chim pass, the Sao Paolo pass is one that I first tried to add to my arsenal back when I was a blue belt.

I ran into all kinds of difficulties with it, but over the years, I came back to it time and time again with new adjustments, but recently I stumbled on one that may just change everything for the better.

It’s just a small difference in grip placement that I learned from a video that Leo Nogueira did on the topic in a video with Bernardo Faria.

And this video delved is into exactly what that adjustment is and why it matters.

To watch Leo Nogueira’s breakdown of the Sao Paolo Pass, go here:

Once you get the overhook in closed guard, the first battle you have to fight is for angle, and that can be lost at times. If that happens, though, it’s not the end of the world. In fact, it might lead to some offensive possibilities like this bad boy right here. Give it a try.
