In today’s video demonstrating the basic techniques I use successfully as a Black Belt. I’m showing you a rear naked choke. I know I know. . . fancy stuff you’ve never seen before.
*please read that with the sarcastic tone that was implied.

Now I know you know the rear naked choke or strangle if you prefer. But I still people struggling to finish their chokes for 1 reason or another. So hopefully I can help you fix this in the next 10 minutes with this video if you experience this issue.

In the video I’ll demonstrate some useful details that you could add into your Brazilian Jiu-jitsu that could help make your rear naked choke finishing game much better. I’ve also included a few clips of me putting these ideas into practice.

Hope it helps!

Just wanted to let you guys know I’ll be doing a new series on the channel showing some of my most basic techniques that I actually use in competition and high level rolling successfully.

The upcoming videos will be longer as I’m going to go deep into the details that make them work. But I think the techniques could be really useful as most of them are options you’ve probably been doing since you were a white belt.

Anyways, be on the lookout for the new series and I’ll see you in the upcoming videos.

The maxim in Jiu-Jitsu is typically “Position Before Submission” which is generally the best advice. However, when you understand the rules well enough, sometimes you can break them with successful results. In this video, I show about 4 exceptions to this rule in the form of submissions that work from inside the opponent’s guard. I hope you like these, and be sure to let me know in the comments what other subs from inside the guard or other bad positions you know of and like.

In today’s video I show a fundamental submission series from Full Guard that I learned as a BJJ White Belt that was very helpful. The position I teach in this video has also been helpful to many of my students who are a bit on the bigger side.

The submission series starts from what I call from Diamond Guard. In it I show 4 submissions.
– Diamond Guard Armbar
– Regular Armbar
– Triangle Choke
– Oma Plata

I’ve also found that this series is really useful for bigger guys like me who don’t have super quick hips and legs.

Hope the video is useful. Thanks for watching.

This video has had a lot of requests, so I finally broke down and made it. Here I show some Rubber Guard fundamentals, set-ups, common mistakes, control features and submission opportunities from basic to advanced. This is a sampling/overview of Rubber Guard, which is a versatile and robust position with uses ranging from sport to mma to self defense.

There are a ton of great resources out there on this topic, mostly from the 10th Planet System. But this guard system has spread far and wide for decades now, and continually evolves. Hope you like my brief overview here.

It seems like I’ve been getting more and more questions lately about passing half guard from all levels of experience. These are the two half guard passes that get me out of more difficult half guards than any others. And if you’re still dealing with quarter guard in the process, I show a good way to clear it and a slick back take option as well.

MMA Help is at Meraki Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Santa Monica, California (11677 Santa Monica Blvd. / http://merakibjj.com) for retired UFC veteran Kenny Florian’s 6:15pm BJJ Fundamentals class. Throughout the hour, Kenny and Victor Silverio will be demonstrating, teaching and explaining the “X” Collar Choke.

* KENNY FLORIAN:
Kenny is an accomplished 3rd degree BJJ black belt under Roberto Maia of Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gracie-Barra Boston).

He is the only UFC fighter to compete in four divisions (Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight and Middleweight). He fought for three UFC titles in two weight classes.

Today, Kenny is a co-host for UFC Tonight on Fox Sports 1, which airs every Wednesday night. Kenny is also co-host of UFC Now, which is available thru UFC Fight Pass.

Kenny’s interpretation of jiu-jitsu uses such philosophy and the correlation between our lives and our time on the mats: “Training reveals a human’s nature in that particular point in time. You can stay in that place or evolve from that place, he says.”

* VICTOR SILVÉRIO SANTOS:
Victor is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, a grade he earned training under the supervision of the illustrious Master Julio Cesar of the Grappling Fight Team (GFT). Silvério was pointed out as one of the top prospects in the sport after his winning performance at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi World Pro Championships back in 2009, where he competed as a juvenile athlete. Since then, Victor Silvério cemented his status with several wins at some of the world’s most respected tournaments
