In this video, I answer a question from Kim, who was asking advice about how to get back to BJJ training after having an ACL reconstruction surgery in her knee.

The ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) is a ligament responsible for helping stabilize your shin bone relative to your knee and in many cases requires surgical repair if injured badly enough.

ACL Reconstruction can vary in duration and has. fairly lengthy rehab and recovery time. If you have had ACL surgery this video will be helpful, and if you’ve injured your knee and are wanting to safely get back to training BJJ, then this video has some important information to help your return to the mats.

—————————————

The Prone Swimmer exercise is great for mobility, strength, and recovery for general shoulder health. The exercise can be modified to include longer hold times and resistance with light weights as well. Start off with 2 sets of 5 reps and focus on going extra slow. The slower the movement, the more challenging and beneficial. […]

—————————————

Stiffness and tightness in the mid back (Thoracic spine) is a common issue due to the positions of Jiu-Jitsu as well as every day life that includes extensive sitting among other activities that forces our spine to round.

This can lead to a rounded posture, decreased mobility, and general stiffness in the mid back which can impact neck, shoulder, and low back function.

In this quick series, I show you exercises that I focused on after I experienced tightness in the mid back after BJJ class.

————————————————

Weakness and lack of mobility is something that most (if not all) of us deal with at some point.
If you are someone that sits a lot for work or practices Jiu-Jitsu, you will have shoulder mobility limitations and strength deficits.

By maintaining mobility and strength you will ensure proper shoulder function and decrease the likelihood of injuries in whatever activity you choose.

In this sequence, we focus on building shoulder health, stability, and mobility through three exercises and then combine these isolated movements into a dynamic movement that yields incredible benefits.

When performing this sequence, work in a comfortable range, avoid any pinching or pain.
