<p>The hook sweep (also known as the butterfly sweep and/or sumi gaeshi) is the most important sweep in your arsenal against kneeling opponents.  It consists of 5 basic steps&#8230;<br />
1, Secure your grips (typically an overhook and an underhook)<br />
2, Tuck the foot on your overhook side under your leg on the  underhook side<br />
3, Fall sideways onto your shoulder<br />
4, Lift with your hooking leg (which is on the underhook side), and<br />
5, Drive off your bottom leg for more power.</p>
<p>Typically you&#8217;re going to end up in side control or broken scarf hold position (aka kuzure kesa gatame) but sometimes you can also go directly to mount.</p>
