This series starts from a sweep that seems too simple to be true. However, after being on the giving and receiving side of it, I’ve found it not only to be useful, but a great initiative for submissions and transition opportunities. In this video, I show the fundamentals of this simple scissor sweep variation, as well as transitions from the opponent’s possible reactions and finally a rear naked choke and triangle choke available from it.

This video was inspired by some concepts I gathered by watching Malachy Friedman’s work on what he refers to as The HeisenGuard. This guard configuration adds a lot of leverage to some bilateral set-ups for sweeps and submissions.

There are lots of options and opportunities, and in this video, with the help of Jared Jessup, I show the main entry to Omoplata, a back take option, a truck entry and a sweep to mounted triangle.

If you want to explore this position in much more detail, get the HeisenGuard DVD here: https://www.budovideos.com/products/the-heisen-guard-dvd-by-malachy-friedman

Obviously, there are many that could be added to the list, but these are the ones that Jared Jessup and I have hit more than anything over the years and feel pretty confident in.
