Don’t let your kids or teens train or compete in MMA if there is head contact. All concussive trauma is brain damage, brain damage is forever, and kids and teens can’t meaningfully consent to an activity that can have severe lifelong implications. There are safer and better training options for kids and teens that don’t have as high a risk of brain damage and CTE.

Now on the other hand, if you’re an adult and are aware of the consequences then fight, spar, and knock yourself out! I totally support your right to take risks and bear the consequences thereof so long as you’re beating the crap out of other people who have also consented to take the same risks!

Novae trains at Atos HQ Kids Program for over 3 years: https://atosjiujitsuhq.com/programs/kids-programs/

“Many parents ask me how they should “roll” with their children. Here is an example…but it’s very important that the adult knows jiu-jitsu, so you can react and help your children the right way.

I don’t like to roll “too easy” neither I try “to kill” the children that I’m rolling with. I like to make sure they are working to conquer their techniques. Also, they must understand jiu-jitsu mechanics (action & reaction). You must make sure they are having fun while they are learning jiu-jitsu properly.”

SUBSCRIBE, LIKE, COMMENT & SHARE

“Andre Galvao is one of the greatest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athletes of all time, with 6 IBJJF World Championship titles, 10 IBJJF Pan American Championships, and 6 ADCC World Championship titles (4x as the ADCC Super Fight Champion). He received his black belt from Luis “Careca” Dagmar, having also worked extensively with Fernando Terere. Galvão is also a former mixed martial artist, with an MMA record of 5-2-0 before he retired to lead the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy’s Headquarters in San Diego, California. Today, Atos is considered one of the best jiu-jitsu academies in the world, producing World Champion athletes at all levels, from juvenile and white belt all the way to black belt.
