A concept to make escaping pins and bad positions on the ground much easier.

And while you’re here, it’s a sad state of affairs that the BJJ community is so particularly vulnerable to reflexive conspiratorial thinking. Yes, there have been conspiracies in this world, but no, not everything is a conspiracy!!

If you’re driven crazy by reflexive conspiracism as well, then check out The Strenuous Life Podcast for a dose of data-driven BJJ and occasional rants about approaching the world through the lens of science. On Youtube the channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxFCWZJbnlRyhw3vmDx0Rlg

P.S. I’m working on a full pin escapes instructional with a conceptual approach to jiu-jitsu and full breakdowns of all the techniques you need to get out from under. Sign up for my newsletter to have early access to that course: https://www.grapplearts.com/newsletter

(Re-Upload) Escaping the mount is one of the most important skills and one of the most difficult things to in Grappling.

You should first learn how to be comfortable and safe when someone is mounted on you before you focus on escaping.

But, once you have some level of competence in bad positions, a good time to escape is when your opponent is transitioning to from one position to another.

In this scenario, we work on using the Upa as he mounts and not after he has settled into the position.

Because he has us in a tight hold, he tends to become over-confident and not realize he has limited his base, making it possible to trap and roll him when he is focused on going to mount.
This is one of my favorite ways to escape.

Check out my school’s page (www.gracieschwarzwald.com) and find me on facebook and instagram under that name as well

This is a fundamental escape from the Mount that I personally used at the PANAMS semi-final match, the Elbow Escape. It’s basic, but loaded with super important details that could make the difference between escaping and getting crushed by your opponent. Pay special attention to the detail on how to set up your “frame”! This video has been taken straight from The Ace Of Escapes Online Video Course, available at http://www.mmaleech.com/theaceofescapes/
