There are a few concepts I like to follow when warming up before activity. These concepts are important because they can help with mitigating injury risk during activity as well as prepare your body for that specific task.

In this video I focus these concepts on the shoulder joint.

The concepts include:

1. Increase your body temperature.
2. Move the area through its available range of motion.
3. Activate the muscles.
4. Load the joint.
5. Lightly begin the activity.

You can apply these principles to different areas as well such as the hips, knees, ankle, etc.

————————————————-

If you get tension, tightness, or pain in the low back whether its from a tough training session, lots of sitting, or even if you have a demanding standing job, then you ay benefit from this technique.

I received a question about how to relieve low back tightness after BJJ class which inspired this video…and if you are someone that doesn’t have a bunch of equipment then this is perfect.

Spinal decompression simply creates a little pressure relief in the spine which can alleviate the feeling of tightness or tension in the low back and the surrounding muscles.

I recommend using a monster band (thick rubber band) around the hips and in this video I used my belt to anchor the band to the wall.

Hold times for the exercise can be 3-5 minutes for 1-2 sets.

This is best performed as a cool down or on a recovery day.

————————————————-

This Choke is super tight! I use to hate cross chokes. I could never hit them. In fact I gave them up for years because I thought they were useless.

Than I started using this variation. I couldn’t believe it I was hitting the choke. Not on scrubs but some high level guys. It’s all about securing that grip super tight and having your elbows right.

Now another one that I will do on top of this choke is sometimes I come up for a sweep with the cross grip. I will hang on to that grip and go right to my choke.

Both of those options have been working really well for me.

Did you know that you could submit someone only using one of your legs? With a little help getting there of course.
