This a small adjustment in the grip that I noticed while watching the Magid Hage vs Clark Gracie match. It has made an instant improvement in my baseball bat choke in half guard. I’ve been hitting it left and right ever since.

The key with baseball bat chokes though is that they are cross chokes. The grips are just reversed initially to conceal the threat, and then a correction is made by rotating the body.

And that’s not all.

One crucial rule of thumb is that you will significantly increase the leverage if you can get your head under theirs. In a half guard, shooting the head under their chin as you close your elbow just makes the finish vicious.

And small adjustments like that make a difference.
