I use the reverse seat belt quite often, as it is an easy scramble to get into if you know how to stay behind your opponent’s arms. From half guard, it comes up regularly as people try to sit out and attack the kimura. So you just have to go over their back at the same time they are trying to turn away from you.

Then, you reach for that far hip, and you can work a hip bump if they stay on their side, or a back take if they come to their fours.

I have grown to love the reverse seat belt position. Most people are not familiar with it, and it is a very scramble orientated position. So people with more experience in this position will dominate the scrambles, and since this is an unorthodox position, you can usually win these scrambles with ease. I also like this position because your opponent cannot punch or elbow you effectively, and he doesn’t have access to submissions because his arms are not able to reach you.

For today’s technique, we going over the most common way of using the reverse seat belt, which is to take the back. It just requires a simple butt scoot and hip shift, and you will have a single leg ride locked up, giving you a path to the back or even the truck.
