In today’s video I’ll be reviewing a couple options to defend the double stack pass.

One of my guys was having trouble defending it today in class, so I thought I’d share what we discussed here too.

This is a pretty common pass in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, both Gi and No-Gi. In fact, it’s also one of my personal favorite passes.

With that being said, every BJJ technique has counters and defenses & I wanted to show you a few of my favorite options here.

Getting stacked sucks. So, hopefully there’s a few ideas here that you find helpful.

Do you get stacked when you go for triangles from guard? It is the most common defense, along with posturing out. In this video, I offer a couple of solid options for countering an opponent who attempts to stack you to escape your triangle choke, and also an option for countering someone posturing out of your triangle. I hope these are as helpful to you as they have been to me over the years.

This video I discuss the concepts of how I go about shutting down the open guard. I categorize Passing Open Guard into two different aspects, One is passing before your opponent has established any particular grips or guards on you, and the second is learning how to shut down each individual guard separately. It’s important to learn how to pass and become comfortable in many different Open Guard positions because the reality is you will often not be able to pass before the establish at least one grip. Let me know your thoughts on which positions are giving you the hardest time.

This video I go through one of my favorite stack passes, and also discuss the idea of how to combine stack passes in with more movement and speed oriented passes like the knee cut and toreando. One of the main concepts is understanding how your opponents leg elevation can make a big difference for which pass you choose to approach the guard with. Let me know future questions I’m trying to put out more videos now and use your questions as the guide for future videos.
