<p>Recently the Ole Chewster has had some health issues&#8230;.</p>
<p>With that being said, it&#8217;s forced me to take some time off the BJJ mats from hard rolling. And so with that I&#8217;ve decided to spend more time in other areas like the gym, specifically with stretching and mobility.</p>
<p>Lots of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners are extremely tight, that includes me.  Personally, I have struggled with flexibility my entire life. I&#8217;ve never been a flexible guy. And with years of hard training and a few surgeries. My body has some issues.  </p>
<p>That said I&#8217;ve been correcting some of these issues with a stretching and mobility program I had created for me. In the video I&#8217;ll share some of the movements that have helped me out. The stretches and exercises today are focused on knees, hips and ankles.  </p>
<p>If you&#8217;re struggling with a similar issue, then hopefully these ideas can be useful to you.</p>
<p>Just remember, I am not a doctor, nor am I giving you any medical advice. I&#8217;m just showing you what has been working for me. </p>

<p>Today&#8217;s video is a quick one showing a few of the stretches I like using when my hands and forearms feel like rocks. This used to be really bad when I first started BJJ. It&#8217;s not as bad anymore, but after a hard competition match or during days where we focus on a lot of situational rolling from Back Mount I&#8217;ll get the locked-up hands a bit. </p>
<p>So, in today&#8217;s video I share 4 stretches with you that you could use in between matches or after a tough training session. </p>
<p>This list is not exhaustive obviously. But these 4 have been super helpful to me. </p>

<p>Try these stretches if you are looking to increase mobility and flexibility within your guard in BJJ. Lay on your back and try some of these movements and stretches before or after class. This is a great solo drill that can help get you used to the movements we do when in guard too. Play around using your BJJ belt and find some tight areas too.<br />
Great for opening your guard and playing a more flexible jiu-jitsu game. </p>

<p>Remember the last time you were on the Jiu-Jitsu mats (if it&#8217;s been awhile maybe not &#8211; but we can try <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/15.0.3/72x72/1f923.png" alt="🤣" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" />? Think of your last wrestle, technique or even drilling session. </p>
<p>Did you throw on a submission where the hips need to be elevated or manage to do a hip escape to get out of a bad position? </p>
<p>It&#8217;s no wonder the hips become tight as we ask them to do everything they can do when we are on the BJJ mats. From bridging to escaping to rolling to shrimping &#8211; everything they can do. </p>
<p>Try out these stretches that focus on stretching primarily the outer hips. These tend to become very tight as a result of all the hard work they do for us, from stabilizing when we walk to playing a massive role in movement on the BJJ mats. </p>
