The Under Hook is my favorite wrestling clinch with the Far Knee Block being my favorite take down.

I have won big matches using it, like in the ADCC World Championships 2009 against Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu. It is relatively low risk technique, with a high reward.

That being said, there are a lot of misconceptions about using the Far Knee Block. The main thing about the far knee block is NOT the knee – it is the shoulder.

I see people trying to pull the knee out, when that isn’t how this works at all. It is all about that shoulder you have the under hook on, and manipulating it to put them off balance. I discuss how to use it and show a few simple chaining options in case you have problems.

I put together a highlight video of takedowns I’ve scored throughout my 15 years of competing.

Some of the more notable take downs here are against BJJ legend Saulo Ribeiro, ADCC champion Jeff Monson, Roy “Big Country” Nelson, and ADCC Absolute Champion Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu.

As you can see, I have fought in my share of absolute divisions, and I have almost always been the smaller guy. That doesn’t stop me from scoring take downs.

If you notice my take downs of choice are head single legs – a balance take down, and a sweeping double leg – a misdirection that causes the opponent to sprawl and break their balance.

Bigger men are more susceptible to losing balance, and whenever you attack balance it doesn’t require much power. Avoiding take downs that require more strength and attacking the hips will help you avoid getting crushed.

It seems everyone has been posting before and after photos from 10 years ago, so I decided to step it up and show you a video of me from 10 years ago. ?

This was back in 2009 in Tiger Muay Thai in Thailand. Me and my former student and grappling sensation Enrico Cocco are reviewing techniques we just learned from a private lesson with one of the TMT trainers.

This series of techniques we are reviewing go over several take downs from the Thai Clinch and the Over Under Clinches. These are all simple but very effective. Check them out and let me know your thoughts, and excuse the video quality. This was filmed on a not so great camera from a not so great camera man, lol.

VISIT https://FFAcoach.com TO WATCH NEW MMA & BJJ technique VIDEOS EVERY DAY!

There are many ways to finish a double leg shot. You can sweep them off their feet in one motion (the classic double leg), you can lift them up and slam (think Matt Hughes), you can trip (think Pablo Popovitch and Marcelo Garcia), or you can sprint and run them over. Each of these finishes requires a different key attribute: timing, power, speed, and hustle.

I like the sprinting double leg because it is always there for you. You just need to hustle. So if you are missing a step with the other finishes, then just take a few more steps and go into a sprint.
