Welcome to episode 150 of the BJJ Mental Coach Podcast! Today, I’m joined by Nick Haider, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and the founder of Guardian Project Los Angeles.

Nick’s journey in martial arts began at just 7 years old after being a victim of bullying, which ignited his passion for self-defense. What started as a way to protect himself evolved into a lifelong commitment to helping others through Jiu-Jitsu. Now, as the founder of Guardian Project LA, Nick is giving back to his community by providing underprivileged youth with the same opportunities he once received. Through Jiu-Jitsu, he’s teaching life lessons, building confidence, and shaping the future of the next generation.

Joining me today as co-host is Calder Powers, who was featured on episode 136. Calder is the executive director of the Guardian Project, a non-profit offering free Jiu-Jitsu training to underprivileged youth worldwide.

Welcome to BJJ Mental Coach Podcast Episode 149. I’m your host Gustavo Dantas, and today we have Derek Price, a former NFL player, jiu-jitsu brown belt, and founder of The Faction Foundation. Derek and I first crossed paths in the early 2000s when he was a chiropractor, and I’ve been inspired by his journey ever since. He founded The Faction Foundation to offer ambitious professionals the same comprehensive plan, playbook, coaching, and team support typically reserved for top athletes, doctors, and business leaders. Married for 30 years with three daughters, Derek is dedicated to sharing these tools with those who previously lacked access.

Dr. Mike Piekarski graduated from Binghamton University in New York with a bachelor’s degree, it was during this time he found MMA and began competing, eventually turning professional while competing in Muay Thai and submission Grappling also.

After he began his professional MMA career he decided to shift his focus and return to school and earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

John Baker is a former professional baseball player who spent seven years in the major leagues. John is a blue belt in jiu-jitsu and he is the Mental Skills Coach for the Chicago Cubs.

A large part of John’s work is teaching mindfulness and meditation practices to athletes. He is trained in Mindfulness Based Attention Training (MBAT) and He has also completed the first level of UCLA’s MARC Mindfulness Program.
