Tall/Lanky BJJ Players Need This Guard In Thier Game

When I was first started doing tournaments I had a really good closed guard game but my open guard really sucked. My instructor (also a lanky grappler) told me to start using the de La Riva years later I realized he was teaching me to use my length against people and the de La Riva is great for grapplers with longer limbs.

You can still use this as a shorter grappler but it is much easier to tangle people up and maneuver around with longer legs.

Today’s drill is simple when you get to this position people are going to try and pass by shoving your leg down. Simply cross your feet like you are in guard keep your legs tight and take them to the side. Worst comes to worse they don’t square back up so you go back to closed guard or attack some submissions. If they do square up it makes for an easy sweep by going the opposite way and using their momentum.

You can use a cross collar grip or sleeve grip from this position but I usually always control the ankle to stop them from moving to fast.

Powerful Guillotine Escape (Perfect for Wrestlers)

The Guillotine can be one of the most frustrating submission at the beginning of your journey. Never knowing where to place your head and always getting choke. It’s even worse for wrestlers. The are always using there head to drive and anytime they shoot they end up in this Guillotine position.

Keep in mind this escape is only if they have one leg in not full guard. In that case we would do something completely different.

I started using this when I saw it working for a lot of high level wrestlers that have done some jiujitsu before. They would go into the death roll and it would work every time. I had to learn to not try and come up with them because I would be beat to the punch.

The Easiest BJJ triangle setup ever (rob promoted?!)

In my opinion this is one of the easiest triangle setups to hit live rolling. You just need to make the person post a hand on the mat and you’re set.

This has been one of my most used setups in my jiu-jitsu career I love it. I started doing it as a blue belt and perfected it since then.

You can hit this from guard or knee shield and you can use the concept from almost anywhere.

Most people will say no the push pull triangle is the easiest! I could agree with that as well because it is simple and easy. But once you get the simple movements down on this triangle you will beat everyone with it.

Huge congratulations to rob he has been training 9 Years all together including judo, army combatives, jiujitsu, wrestling.

He is more than deserving of his purple belt. Rob came into our gym about a year ago and we became really good friends. I am happy to promote him to his purple belt!

CHAD “THE BEAST” HARDY HIGHLIGHT VIDEO

here are some of my favorite finishes in tournaments . I want to start off by giving credit to these tournaments they were all very well ran. Fuji, grapplers quest, smokey mountain, tn top roller, ego, ugi.

I have competed in over 400 tournament matches in my grappling career thus far and I plan on competing in a lot more. I havnt made a highlight video in awhile so I figured I was due for another. I love to study my own game and find my flaws to fix them.

I hope this video gives you some ideas of submissions you could be going for or how to compete with a lanky style of grappling. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I’ll try to get a video out as soon as possible?
