Mendes Brothers

watching the whole tournament yesterday I was able to see many good matches, but none was as intense and technical as jessa x mayssa

these two girls went back and forth in an exchange of techniques and dominance that made the fight a treat to anyone watching. mayssa was very dominant in the lower belt ranks and became the black belt world champion in her first year as black, jessa has been a brown belt for less than one year and dominated every competition in the lower belts.

this is the match up I was looking for, and this is the match up that jessa wanted too because she knows they will face each other a lot in the future. mayssa has good control of the score in her matches while jessa fights in a higher pace and chases submission attempts. both have great qualities that can lead to victory. as jessas coach and knowing that she is only 18 and not even a black belt yet, I analyze every attack and mistake and bring it to our attention in order to become better for the next time.

yesterday jessa imposed her game and was able to attack for the majority of the time, got a very tight triangle and was able to sweep opening the score and being ahead until the last 20s of the match, in my opinion she made a mistake of stopping her attacks and changing the approach to secure the victory, that gave mayssa the opportunity to explode in the last 20 seconds, attack the back and win the match.

not the result we wanted but it definitely showed us where jessa is at and what we need to adjust.

next competition for the team is pan ams.
