Posted @withrepost • @bellevuewapolicerecruiting This week our community academy participants got treated to a fantastic PowerPoint presentation on use of force by our training coordinator officer Park. He discussed the rules of engagement for officers that are built on landmark cases like Graham v. Connor and Tennessee v. Garner. The group then got to check out our #defensivetactics room where Aurelio graciously volunteered to attack ofc Hanaumi in a unscripted demonstration. The only rules were that he had to keep moving forward with his assault. If he got on top of ofc Hanaumi, he was instructed to continue and not run away. Aurelio is about 20lbs heavier and 22 years younger than Ofc Hanaumi. What would an officer be justified in doing if he/she were attacked like this? Presuming that an officer was stuck on the bottom of a fight could he/she justify using a tool (taser, OC spray, knife, baton, firearm) to protect themself? If the answer is yes, how would that tool be safely accessed and retained from the bottom of the fight? How important is training? Is training available on-duty? We would love to have more #jiujitsu & #martialarts practitioners, #fitness enthusiasts, and good people from all walks of life on our #team and #wearehiring!
