If you arrive late to BJJ class and want to get warmed up quickly, then flow rolling is a great technique to try.
Its a useful way to get your body and mind tuned in and ready for BJJ. Building muscle memory, getting your tissue warmed up, and also going at a slower pace will open up and show you new things that you may have missed during a regular rolling session.
As always, listen to your body to ensure you are properly warmed up and choose a training partner who you are comfortable with.

In this video, I provide one tip on how to avoid knee injury when playing the De La Riva Guard.
Knee injuries are prevalent in BJJ and when playing ths type of guard you can be susceptible to knee injury such as an LCL strain or a meniscus injury due to the pressure on the knee. This is where proper positioning come in. I have my training partner and BJJ black belt Chad “The Beast” Hardy help me out in this video and demonstrate. He is very effective from this position and uses it quite a bit in training and tournaments.
Make sure to check out Chad’s youtube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuauqeukQLtUrucpitF4OGQ
Here are a few of his videos that break down the De La Riva Guard:

There are multiple variations when performing exercises and numerous ways to perform each exercise. In this video we use a kettle bell with the “bottoms up” approach.
We hold the kettle bell upside-down which forces the stabilizing muscles in the wrist, elbow, and shoulder to be activated even more than when using a traditional dumbbell.
When training BJJ, stability ad strength of the entire arm is crucial to maintaining health and preventing injury. A solid exercise that takes some practice but i very beneficial to preventing upper extremity injury and helping your BJJ game.
