This video is essentially a brief synopsis and illustration of the Knife Control Concepts seminar and project with Aaron Jannetti and myself. Aaron has done an excellent job producing this material, and the collaboration we have done for the ground portion makes for a comprehensive approach to this topic. The concepts are principle-driven technical drills and a functional approach that makes for a very practical training experience.
This collaboration video in association with Budo Brothers is over a topic that I have been exploring for some time now, knife defense in ground grappling. This is the result of years of training with experienced grapplers, martial artists, law enforcement and other industry professionals interested in self defense and personal protection.

Weapons consideration is a very realistic threat in self defense. Defending against knife attacks, or knife usage in a fight, is a scary and dangerous possibility. In this video we explore a potential position one is likely to find themselves in in a physical confrontation if the fight hits the ground. We focus in this short segment specially on side control and transitioning from a severely inferior position to a potentially dominant one, using a sweep that is useful in a variety of fighting situations. Please be safe in any physical training you do, particularly when training in combative or competitive endeavors.
