? Video Went Viral – SAFADA —> So, if you have been following jiu-jitsu news this past week, you had to have seen the clip of Tereres ( @tererebjj ) match winning takedown from the recent Gracie Pro event.

This is a takedown Terere loves to do and has done for years which he calls the “Safada Takedown” and is a modification of the Japanese takedown called “kouchi-makikomi”.

Terere once even took down the legendary Roger Gracie with it back in 2004 at the World Championship.

But in this match, there was a bit of a variation of the technique used, as his opponent either knew it was coming, or by instinct stepped out to defend.
The technique  works when you use your forward momentum to hook the inside of your opponents opposite side leg, while driving through his hips to land on top tripping  and off balancing him.

In this match, his opponent, the very tough and skilled competitor Raphael Abi-Rihan, stepped his left foot out back and to the left to defend. However, Terere maintained the collar grip with his right hand and grabbed behind Raphaels right knee with his left hand to finish the takedown.
Many times this will cause you to end up in your opponents half guard, so Terere always advices to underhook the opposite side so as to not allow your opponent on bottom access to your back. .
