Why was Wilder bleeding from his ear?
Ruptured eardrum
••••••••••••••••••••••
The long awaited rematch between @gypsyking101 and @bronzebomber was an exciting fight with Fury getting a 7th round stoppage over Wilder.
.
The big turning point in the fight was during the 3rd round when Fury dropped Wilder with a cross. Wilder was able to make the 10-count but he looked wobbly for the rest of the round and was never able to recover. After the 3rd round Wilder was noticeably bleeding from his ear. What happened to his ear? Why was it bleeding?
.
According to one of his trainers, Jay Deas, Wilder suffered a small cut inside the ear, which required stitches. What he is referring to is a ruptured eardrum (tympanic membrane perforation). This is when the thin layer between your ear canal and middle ear has a hole or tear.
.
Symptoms of Tympanic Membrane Perforation: •sharp ear pain
•drainage from the ear (bloody or clear)
•tinnitus (ringing in the ear)
•hearing loss
•vertigo (perception of the room spinning) which will also throw off one’s balance / equilibrium.
.
This injury generally heals on its own without complication. I’m hoping for Wilder to make a speedy recovery.
