On average, cops in America get less than 4 hours of defensive tactics training per year, so it’s no surprise that we see so many disastrous use of force encounters going viral. Most law enforcement agencies will blame lack of funding, but the ones who are doing it right have discovered something remarkable: the money needed for better training of officers comes from having better trained officers. The resulting reduction in injuries, to officers and civilians, results in a measurable redirection in worker’s comp claims AND a reduction in excessive force lawsuits against the agency and the money saved in this respect more than pays for the training improvements!
