About 95% of the textiles that are thrown away could be reused or recycled [1]. ♻️⠀

The apparel and sportswear industries account for an immense & growing millions of tonnes of textile waste that end up in landfills or burned each year. ⠀
⠀
As one of the largest jiu-jitsu teams in the world, we felt an obligation to initiate our GB (Re)Purposed Program as a conscious effort to not only reduce our textile waste & pollution; but to also bring an awareness & conversation about environmental responsibility. 🌎⠀

We collected together 75 kimonos that were either production defects, returns that were sent back, and old kimonos that were retired by students or professors. Some of these kimonos had years of stories worked into their fibers, and it was a shame to just throw them away. 🥋⠀
⠀
We believed there was an alternative for these durable uniforms to continue being used— but differently. All of the kimonos were washed, unstitched, re-cut, and sewn back together to be carried into a new journey. 🆕⠀

The kimonos were reconstructed into bags in downtown Los Angeles with added vintage denim, deadstock military fabric and zippers from the 1980’s. Each bag is one-of-a-kind and individually hand numbered. ⠀

A very limited number of tote bags & duffle bags are now available online while supplies last. ⠀
