“Andre Galvao, is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Luis “Careca” Dagmar, having also worked extensively with Fernando Terere (2003-2006 from purple to black belt). Galvão is regarded as one of the greatest competitors to have ever graced the sport, Galvao started competing in 1996, and from 2001 to 2019 at the highest level, a reputation conquered through important titles such as 6x IBJJF World Champion, 10x IBJJF Pan American Champion, and 6x ADCC World Champion (4x ADCC Super Fight World Champ). André Galvão also competed in mixed martial arts (MMA), having retired from cage-fighting with a record of 5-2-0 to lead the Atos Jiu-Jitsu Academy. Heading the team’s headquarters in San-Diego, CA Galvão established one of the strongest BJJ teams in of the modern era of the sport.
Galvao started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Sao José dos Campos – SP, Brazil at the age of 12 in 1995. Two weeks after receiving the Black Belt from his first instructor Luiz Carlos Dagmar in March 2005, Galvao became Black Belt Pan Campion, then three months later Galvao became Black Belt World Champion for the first time submitting all his opponents. In the same year, Galvao won Double Gold at the Brazilian Nationals Submitting 7 of his 8 fights. In September of 2010 Andre Galvao moved to San Diego Ca where he start sharing his knowledge at his own academy Atos Jiu-jitsu HQ. Today Atos Academy is known as one of the best jiu-jitsu academies of the world, making World Champions from white to black belt.
