I take a critical look at Keenan’s coach’s argument as to why Keenan was “robbed”. Once again, those who are clueless…*facepalm*

If a tournament has points or advantages that are awarded off opinion and you get screwed I feel bad for you. If you keep competing in their tournaments and paying your money to them I don't. This is a solvable problem. Don't compete in Ibjjf comps til the rules aren't open for interpretation

Hilarious, yet let's not overlook that there was finger wagging and that has yet to be be dealt with. Hopefully, quickly and severely. That kid Keenan takes himself way too seriously and needs to realize that the IBJJf is not about him, the competitors, or the sport. IBJJF is about something else and its important and needs to be respected. Hey Keenan, just because your initials are kk"JC" does not mean you can act in such a sacrilegious way…disgusting.
Thanks BJJ Scout for keeping it focused on the real issues and not getting hung up on the trivialities of the officiating.

(Side stepping BJJSCOUT's sarcasm here as its clearly falling flat with people….)

people always try hail mary footlock to get an advantage right at the end if they are down. Thats why its important for the ref to recognize this and not give the advantage if its not obvious that the foot lock was almost on. Just wrapping someones ankle and squeezing cant always be thought of as a genuine submission attempt. This is why the ref DIDNT GIVE IT originally but then was overruled by the side refs.

They went into the final decision even on points and advantages, BUT only one of those advantages was awarded by a refs splits decision. This alone should sway the judges final decision in Keenans favor.

We then have the fact that all points/advantages were for things like sweeps EXCEPT Keenans back take which was the only truly dominant position in the match. All points are considered equally valuable UNTIL the score is tied and you need to make a decision. At that point i dont think its unreasonable to think of the points Keenan scored for full back mount as being 'worth more' than the other points scored in match. Yes, there is no official rule here and it is up to he refs subjective opinion. But to look at this match as a whole and come down on the side of Gaudio and his sweeps vs keenans back mount is exactly what people are objecting too. Its only controversial precipice because most peoples subjective opinion runs the other way !

As keenan stated on his own instagram, having opinion involved at all is the problem. I think thats what he was shaking his head at at the end…

To be honest, your attempt at sarcasm and humour on this channel lately have just been confusing or unfunny. The robot voice you use doesn't lend itself to the subtle sarcasm you're trying to get across. It's not surprising that people sometimes don't get it. Sure those comments aren't from the most perceptive of people, but it's not like even the people who get it are rolling in the aisles either. I prefer your earlier, more earnest approach.

I think a more interesting video comparison is ISAQUE BAHIENSE vs CLAUDIO CALASANS in Worlds 2018 , where Calasans goes for the same illegal footlock at the end of the match as Guadio did against Keenan and actually gets DQ'd for it.

Congratulations to everyone in the chat who can tell when someone is being sarcastic. Btw, I looked back at the last vid for your three points 17 sec vs 15 sec, close score and 2 Brazilians. I think no one came back with a rebuttal because you didn’t elaborate very much on those points. 2 seconds seems like an entirely arbitrary amounts of time, shouldn’t make a difference. The closeness of the scores definitely shouldn’t come into consideration when awarding points, i really don’t get this one, in my mind the rules should be followed even more closely in a situation like that because any decision is crucial to an already uncertain outcome, despite the fact that the rules should be consistently applied all the time anyway. As for 2 Brazilians, is your point that the refs are going to treat the Brazilians differently or what? If it is I agree, best case scenario they are gonna be a little biased, they are human. I still don’t think that justifies an inconsistency in application of the rules, and I really don’t think we should hold those inconsistencies up as a standards of practice, as you suggest.

Lost all respect for Kennan. Used to think he was a really smart guy with a subtle humor and a deep sense of irony, but this IBJJF garbage makes it clear that isn't the case. So overtly disrespectful. Kennan should have been disqualified. If the IBJJF banned him for life over this I wouldn't object for a second. Props to BJJSCOUT for keeping it real.

Such negativity. This kind of thing could be easily solved by simply allowing competitors to dispute the decision. At which case a panel of judges can review the match afterwards and then vote on the outcome. The matches are recorded. This is the worlds. At least then we could tell if it is biased referring or a simple mistake.

The whole IBJJF tournament system is flawed anyway because belt rank is the opinion of ones instructor. It's not a sound way to organize a competition. I would like to see the winners of the blue/purple/brown belt divisions have a chance to compete against the winners of the black belt divisions that way the whole sham can be exposed. These guys at the lower levels are collegiate level wrestlers and other professional athletes. Most of them have been sandbagged by there instructors because a blue belt world champion seems to mean more than a third place brown belt medal. Allow a collegiate level wrestler to compete under the current score system and they have a very good chance of winning at the black belt level.

Ever wonder why none of the IBJJF heros never compete in submission only or no-GI rules or why the no-GI champs never put on a GI an dominate in another format. Because it is a game with rules completely unrelated to actual Jui-jitsu. Jui-jitsu is teaching the meek to defeat the strong using reason. Not professional athletes cutting weight and coming at each other balls to the wall trying to score based on some flawed rule set.

Again he is trying to manipulate the rules to his advantage!!!!
I hope IBBJF bans the whole Atos team for life, what a blight on jiu jitsu.

Some of the orig video was sarcasm mixed with argument. You can't pretend you've gone full satire when you make cogent arguments against Keenan's win. That's clearly not sarcasm. You make good points but putting your hands on a foot like it's a legit threat doesn't mean it should be awarded. And you calling out people's spelling?!? You're second to no one in the analysis game, but you type like you were educated in a third world country by a lemur. Gtfo with the spell flexing.

There aren't too many sports where the ref is also the judge that decides the winner, in fact in a lot of sports it's really looked down upon if the ref influences the eventual outcome of a match … maybe that should change for jiu jitsu

IBJJF changed the rules because of the BJJ Scout videos on this subject.
    IBJJF
    "RULES UPDATE GUIDE – 2018
    PAGE 27
    6.2.2 Serious Fouls
    Rule revision:
    j) When an athlete communicates with someone, orally or through gestures, in a manner that contradicts a decisionmade by the referee."

The IBJJF is often very discriminatory towards non Brazillian champions period. You need to learn portuguese, maybe change your name to a portuguese name, and at least fake a Brazilian accent if you want to be accepted into the club. Almost all of the refs are Brazilian black belts, very nationalistic, and it is a business to make money that Brazilians are in control of, and it will remain the top venue so long as mostly Brazilian champions seemingly dominate that venue, regardless of the legitimacy of how it is orchestrated.
