I feel like the point you are making here is at the heart of the conflict between "sport bjj" and "self defense bjj": not having to defend strikes makes for a completely different game, it almost looks like a different martial art
The shoulder pin is not that effective because the top guy will just limp arm out. I've seen it done a couple times in MMA. Good old fashioned wrist/bicep control and an overhook is the best trapping system in my opinion.
