While this sounds like a Dr Seuss character, I’m referring to the thoracic spine. This is one of my favourite movements to open it up. Here’s why it’s important.
.
.
When we perform exercises such as swings, deadlifts, overhead press etc we have to fix and stabilise through the thoracic spine. But, overtime this can lead to stiffness in the thoracic spine.
.
.
In turn this can lead to hyper mobility in other areas of the spine, which in turn can lead to problems in the shoulders and hips.
.
.
So, it can be a great idea to use movements like this before, during and after your S&C workouts to maintain mobility in the thoracic spine and compensate exercises where you have to heavily stabilise this area of the spine.
