In Sambo you learn how to wrestle, but also learn the Judo throws/sweeps curriculum. Also, you learn more than enough ground defence and enough submissions. It is the most complete single martial art and probably the best one to start. Combat sambo is everything I just mentioned + striking (including headbuts and ball kicks apparently lol).
Combat sambo and pankration are best for MMA. Wrestling, while incredibly useful, doesn't cover submissions. Leaving it's practitioners very open to complex guards and locks.(De La Riva, rubber guard, leg locks, etc.) Bjj doesn't breed the strength, athleticism and speed that wrestling does. Not to mention bjj is severely hindered in MMA because their is a 5 minute time limit to submit someone.
SAMBO/CAMBO are no joke although it’s not that popular in the US it’s a solid fighting system. Also Khabib is champ now and Fedor tkod Chael both Sambo guys lol.
Please do a study on Fedor the Emperor, he is a Sambo master like khabib but unlike khabib he rarely goes for double or single leg takedown & instead focus on body locks

Was surprising to hear Chael put down Sambo. Didn’t Dean Lister learn his leg submissions from Sambo? Fedor’s take downs have been pretty legendary.
