  4. few jiu jitsu guys go into mma…most mma guys still do jiu jitsu tournaments. Jiu jitsu guys are are still wannabe ufc fighters but to scared to really fight.

  7. As you can guess from my profile pic, I’m probably a bit biased when it comes to GM Rickson. But here is me trying to as objective as possible. I would say if you put prime Rickson, and prime Keenan in a vale tudo tournament/street fight now, Rickson’s Jiujitsu would definitely serve him 10x better. As his Jiu jitsu was geared towards actual fighting, not bjj competitions. I.e.: A MARTIAL art. However, in a bjj comp? Yes the Keenan’s generation would most probably have an advantage as the techniques have evolved so much. There’s no denying that. (Then again, there are legends about how Rickson would spar with younger world champs, struggle, then come back after a night of evaluation and wreck them the next day :p)

  14. If you had good jiu-jitsu in Rickson era you were fighting Luta Livre guys or Gracie challenge matches. Dominant positions and defense from the bottom were where you needed to excel. Today’s jiu-jitsu isn’t the same thing. To excel in today’s jiu-jitsu as Keenan knows you need to focus primarily on gi guards and gi guard passing. While Keenan might believe that Rickson would have been strong purple belt level Rickson might also believe that Keenan is only good purple belt level in his eyes.

    No offense to Keenan but I would bet on a prime Rickson beating Keenan in today’s jiu-jitsu before I’d bet on Keenan beating a prime Rickson in a fight with Rickson representing bjj and Keenan repping AJJ as he calls his style.

  16. Rickson has the legacy but Royce and renzo had the harder fights… Their records speak for itself.. And back when sakuraba wiped the floor with royler ..mean while rickson played it safe by keeping his record intact.And even tho Royce lost to Matt Hugh's he still had the guts to step in their even against such a beast..
