As an admitted Poirier mark, Im finding it difficult to picture his path to victory. Not in the "he couldn't formulate a plan that could beat Conor" but is he most likely to follow and enact that plan to a T.

    1. I don't know how he can safely enter the clinch area, considering his often utilized tools.

    2. I can't tell if he has entered a slight decline, referring to the hooker fight specifically, or if they both came in looking a bit, for lack of a better phrase, not up to snuff.
Also a possibility that they both had a short camp, lack of training partners and availability, etc.

How can he win the fight by means of getting to the clinch? Or employing a low kick game?

Hoping that either fighters show us something right under our nose that we've barely examined that is a path to victory. I appreciate outcomes thay transcend the usual "Poirier wins by decision" or "Conor wins by early ko" and those being the only two realistic possibilities. Love a good shakeup. 🙂

Thanks for your breakdowns, as always. Glad to see you back

I believe it will be a similar attack on Conor's end to the the Diaz 2 fight although I don't believe Dustin will take Conor's shots as well as Nate. Dustin also lacks in the reach advantage Diaz had. I predict Conor will finish Dustin in R2.

Not that it's his bag or anything, but high pressure clinch work seems like Dustin's most likely path to victory. Maybe his only path to victory. Just gotta watch out for those cobra shoulder strikes.

Study of punching combinstions would be cool. I think it is the hsrdest skill in striking. Wonderboy, Anderson Silva and Dominick Cruz are good in it.

How about study of Robert Whittaker. He has a unique style and he has started mixing wrestling to his striking. I think they'll meet again with Israel Adesanya.

Round 1, Dustin did the same shelling guard and then took a couple of Conor's shots.
Round 2, Dustin's head movement, as you expected, induced many missblows from Conor. + many calf kicks.

    Great Breakdown!
