Can Maia go to half as usual, but take more risks in his movement down there? He might catch something in transition if he keeps it moving. If he hangs around for position he will take some damage

Can you do an analysis on José Aldo's take down defense? He has no doubt the best in the entire UFC's roster

Damn I hope we get to see jiu jitsu vs wrestling as opposed to Tyron knocking Maia out. Would be more fun this way. If Woodley wins this way he will have beaten an expert striker and an expert grappler in what they do best, solidifying his legacy.

Deian maia is a BJJ scientist, I dont think he needs any pointers from a wrestler on how to counter a takedown defense. Maia's grappling knowledge>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>a novice like Ben Askren! Askren could learn a thing or two from the master himself!

"Woodley is vicious against halfguard" i'd bet my House that wouldn't be the case against Maia. He has to avoid his halfguard if anything 'cause Maia has a good game from half guard. Woodley has to apply a sprawl and brawl type tactic against Maia.

the difference between everyone else and Maia in that division is that if Woodley locks his hands like that and tries to grapple Maia will just jump to half guard which is what he wants anyway. His half guard is not like the others in the division. He is the dominant one in that position if Woodley tries to strike Maia will advance.

If Woodley wants to win he better keep it standing, because it doesn't matter how good Woodley or Askren are on the groun, Demian Maia is on a whole different level of ground game.

I have been a big fan of Maia for a long time now dating back to his pre UFC days but on paper Woodley has the advantage.

Then again you wouldn't know until they fight.

I only wish Demian Maia was alittle younger fighting at 39 of age is rough.

Thompson is bad on the ground, these examples work. But Maia is very, very comfortable on the ground and has a better chin than Thompson too.

Good video, but appears too bias in favor of Maia. Would have been better to be balanced and show tactics that can be used against Maia, not just Woodley.

Amazing analysis. Just went on patreon and committed a couple bucks a month.
I was watching the fight and having this breakdown in my head really helped me appreciate the battle between Woodley's fence take-down defense and Maia's fence take-down offense.
People in the crowd were booing but I was enjoying the chess match thanks to this video.
    P.S.
I was hoping one day we would see Maia vs. Askern – but I guess after seeing how the "disciple" handled Maia's takedowns – there's no point in seeing him go against the master – hats off to Askern for making the blueprint.
