Folkstyle needs to be taught as self defense, to adults

May not be relevant, but Serra was talking about Gastelum vs Kennedy.

I've noticed that kelvin sometimes easily allows himself to get taken down to let the other fighter get worn out. He saves his energy to defend against submissions rather than use it on TDD. The problem with Chris is that he's one of the higher level BJJ fighters Kelvin has fought and Chris is used to grappling for long amounts of time. Therefore his body is used to it. So it was no use this time.

I think the difference between harness and hook based back control probably gets underplayed in this video

The new text style and transition with and between video is excellent and is easier to watch

Demien Maia for pure MMA Jui-Jitsu. Khabib is like a Wrestler with good Judo throws and average Jui-Jitsu which is a sick blend. But for Folkstyle fighters mixing in submissions I'd have to say DC and Cain personally.

Not to take anything away from Weidman but it helped A LOT that he was way bigger than Gastelum

Current best pfp in mma right now in what you're analyzing on this sweet ass channel, is Maia. Askren has the best folk, but could he implement his game plan over Maia? Could Maia submit Askren? Another consideration here is Jake Shields as far as pfp. Love your channel, haven't missed a video. Keep up the awesome work.

And here I was thinking Weidman secured the win primarily due to his obvious size advantage (grappling skills being ~on par). If Kelvin learns aptly from this defeat – and at his stage there's plenty of time to do so – his progression at middleweight could be unprecedented.

The MMA world (UFC) ignoring Ben Askren has been one of the greatest tragedies in the development of the sport.

You're videos are great and I agree that these rides are a good answer to the problems that they encounter taking the back……..
BUT so is simple seat belt control/over under from the back.
Marcelo Garcia thinks seat belt is more important from the back than hooks. https://youtu.be/N_rQ0kuir6E

Please do a breakdown of khabib!

  31. hubobubo says

    July 26, 2017 at 2:40 am

I really feel like double hook back control is a over overrated grappling position. I think the fact that it scores very well in IBJJF competition has warped peoples sense of its strategic dominance in MMA and submission grappling.

  32. Theodore Wurz says

    July 26, 2017 at 11:40 am

Folk wrestling + Submissions = Catch Wrestling, so who has the best mix of these skills? Aleksi Olyniek (I know, Sambo, but Sambo without the Kurtka is very similar to Cacc), Khabib Nurmagomedov, Josh Barnett, basically Sambo and Catch wrestlers. Solid wrestlers with really good Bjj like Weidman of course can use these strategies and techniques, but they need to think wrestling first and then use the bjj submissions, instead of bjj strategies and bjj submissions. Submissions are submissions really, whatever gets the tap, but mat wrestling is being rediscovered in mma, and I think that is a great thing. Folkstyle wrestlers should be looking to Catch Wrestling for their MMA ground game, not Bjj.

  38. C H says

    July 31, 2017 at 6:26 am

The goal is simple. Stay on top and stay in control.

The most effective way to end a fight is not to land a submission, but to repeatedly pummel their head until they are knocked out or weak enough to land a submission from top position.

All good UFC champions know this. Stipe Miocic, Jon Jones, Conor McGregor, DJ all do this. Maintain dominant position at all times and land effective strikes.

another great analyst, seeing tim kennedy makes me miss him. Tim Kennedy vs Weidman would of been a great fight.

I thought weidman was doing all these rides was because he was bigger and stronger. GSP use to do alot of rides was that folk as well?

  40. matt Soule says

    August 2, 2017 at 6:34 pm

Tim is a warrior and will be for the rest of his days. I know that he doesn't tire easily from grappling, so i'm not sure if that was an accurate assessment of why he got gassed in that particular fight.
