I had the opportunity to train with Rickson at Krons academy in Culver City and had a great experience. Picked me multiple times to demonstrate moves, showed me a heel hook defence, got an autograph and a few pictures. Seemed like a normal cool dude.

I think Rickson's spot on with the rules, at least in terms of fighting. Literally every martial art becomes less about actually fighting and more of a sport once the focus is competing with people in the same style.
In some way the art advances. BJJ today has a lot more moves, take something like the Barimbolo as an example.
But I think the original Gracies, I mean they were scrappy guys growing up in a place where fights happen all the time. Do you think they were trying Barimbolos in a street fight? Of course not, their BJJ practice was tempered with their experience getting into street fights. The Jiu Jitsu was the type of Jiu Jitsu where strikes are happening from the opponent, where they might need to stand up if the person they were fighting had friends.
If you just focus on a pure sport aspect, the art evolves but it evolves around what works against other people trained in the same art trying to score points under the same rules. My guess is, most of the old school Gracies are really, really tough in street fights, I mean they've proven that, but I think in a sport competition you could find people who exploit the sports rules and use crazy techniques better than they do.
Take 10th planet BJJ, they've got a ton of sick submissions and transitions and Eddie claims they were intended for MMA, but the reality is you don't see a ton of 10th planet guys dominating MMA. Old school guys like Nogueira were known for the Jiu Jitsu in MMA but really when you look at their games it was pretty bread and butter BJJ game, I guess that's what I'm saying.

I think stalling is part of juijutsu, get a dominant position, maintain, opponent gets tired, finish.

He said he likes fighters who push and go for subs… Well there are few that fit that description better than the danaher death squad. Gordon ryan, tonnon, cummings/ Wheres the love rickson?
Ive come to the conclusion that rickson and most brazilians are racist towards anyone who is NOT brazilian and take a moral high ground as if they didnt learn bjj from the japanese.
