Old School Still Cool.😎 👴🏼🥋
This is a move from what Rafael Lovato calls Timeless Jiu-Jitsu. In an era where many chase the newest, trendiest techniques, it’s easy to forget that you can never go wrong with strong basics and a solid foundation.
During a seminar in Memphis, Tennessee, at @novauniaousa @bordermartialarts on September 27, I shared this specific cross-grip passing approach. It’s been around since the ’90s, used by some of the biggest names in the sport, and continues to evolve. Pay close attention—you’ll notice top-level competitors still applying it today.
Back in the days before the @ibjjf Worlds even existed, the Copas were the events that gathered the best athletes. This clip shows me as a blue belt at Copa Novo Leblon in Rio de Janeiro. On those same mats, over 30 years ago, I watched multiple future black belt adult world champions competing as blue and purple belts. 👴🏼
Little by little, I’ll be adding Jiu-Jitsu content inside The BJJ Masters Community as well. Your membership also gives you access to complete courses, monthly live classes, study groups, and strategic competition content designed for the Masters athletes. check it out at www.thebjjmentalcoach.com
