Josh Barnett is a former UFC heavyweight world champion and one of the world’s biggest proponents of catch wrestling. Josh has had a remarkable combat sports career that has taken him all over the world to compete in both MMA and submission grappling.
Jits Magazine’s Alex Lindsey spoke to about how he first discovered catch wrestling, and the steps he’s taken to revitalize the sport. Josh shared some unique insight into what he thinks are flaws in several Jiu-Jitsu rulesets, and also explained why he still values the guard even in catch wrestling. Josh also spoke about his own submission grappling career, from ADCC 1999 all the way up to superfights with Gordon Ryan and Owen Livesey.

Options from the seated Kimura position when the Kimura isnโt quite happening:
– The Genie Kimura is a powerful alternative that can get the finish vs a strong and stubborn opponent
– The Tarikoplata is even more powerful and a great option if available
– The Japanese Leg Scissor Choke is a timeless classic that is underutilized these days
These and more were featured in this seminar I taught at Balance Point BJJ in New Hampshire recently. The full seminar on Kimura Trap Strategies, as well as a secondary session on Leg Entanglements and Attacks will be on Patreon.com/KnightJiuJitsu
