Getting to the Russian 2 on 1 or arm and waist control is one of my favorite go to positions.
Here’s a takedown I really like from this position.

Techniques should always be paired together.
Have a pass that works off the sweep you do, not one that is unrelated to it.
This is one of my favorite submissions and fits in extremely well to one of my favorite takedowns.

Escaping the mount is one of the most important skills and one of the most difficult things to in Grappling.
You should first learn how to be comfortable and safe when someone is mounted on you before you focus on escaping.
But, once you have some level of competence in bad positions, a good time to escape is when your opponent is transitioning to from one position to another.
In this scenario, we work on using the Upa as he mounts and not after he has settled into the position.
Because he has us in a tight hold, he tends to become over-confident and not realize he has limited his base, making it possible to trap and roll him when he is focused on going to mount.
This is one of my favorite ways to escape.

I call the position I start in The Overhook Guard. It was one of the first closed guard attack positions I learned (It was so central to my team’s game that some called it Hub One).
Here is an Old School Armlock from this position.

This was the way the Armlock was often performed in Traditional Jiu-Jitsu (and one that Grandmaster Helio often taught) because it was safer from a Self-Defense perspective.

A very common counter to the Drop Seio Nage is for the person to sprawl out to your side to take away the power of the throw and to potentially even take your back.
Here is a way to finish the throw when they do this.

Here is a great technique for when you attack the Kimura from half guard top and they defend by gripping their belt or pants.

Here is an Old School armlock from side control, specifically modified side control.
I like submissions like this because even if I don’t catch the submission, I still retain the position.

In my opinion, being able to takedown from various clinches should be the core of your takedown arsenal, at least in the beginning of your training.
I’m a big fan of knee block takedowns because they don’t require a lot of power and if they fail it is still possible to work into other clinch takedowns.
