Black-Belt/Adult/Male/Feather – Qualifier
4 days until my loyal worm army takes to the streets and unleashes the entire lapel system onto those misfortunate enough to have not studied the ways of the encyclopedia. It’s going to be like a purge event. But seriously this instructional will reshape the landscape of Jiujitsu. So much is going to have to change to deal with all the blue and purple belts wrecking with this stuff at ibjjf. Already we’ve seen people destroying at lower belts but now that the fog of war has been lifted, it’s a whole new game. Stay tuned. This Monday. Link in my profile for more information. @hyperfly

5 days left to launch. ?INTERMEDIARY LAPEL CONTROL?A large portion of the #lapelencyclopedia is Intermediary Control. Everyone knows that once you get a locked in lapel guard (worm squid gubber etc) the position feels stupid strong. But getting there while still maintaining a strong guard can be difficult. To avoid feeling like you are lost with a limp lapel in your hand before achieving a lapel guard you have to understand the foot placements, the grips and the body positioning to play guard with just a hand on the lapel. These positions are called intermediary controls. The inbetween guards that tie the system together and is what has allowed me to make this all work at a High level. I have never shown this concept before but this is the key that lapel guard players are missing. The first half of this instructional, yes the first 4.5 hours is spent on discussing and explaining intermediary controls and how to use them to make your guard complete. This is a side of my Jiujitsu that is much deeper than worm or squid combined and will make a lot of people who have been following this style have that ? AH HA moment. 5 days left to launch. Jiu-Jitsu is a unique martial art, where offense can be the best defense. Unlike striking arts where being over aggressive can leave you open to a lot of counter attacks. In grappling, there is very little risk to being aggressive, in fact most blue belts and purple belts who win in the gym or in competition aren’t necessarily the most technical. But the most aggressive. That’s due to them (usually unbeknownst to themselves) using the concept of tempo. There’s just very little opportunity to counter attack against aggressive guard passing. This only works when a technique is applied properly. The number one piece of advice I give and receive, is to be aggressive. It’s usually easier to tell someone to fight hard than to explain Tempo. However, this is why aggressive fighters have a lot of success in Jiujitsu, check out @keenanonline in the blue belt course for more info on tempo. Or my interview I did with @flograppling (link in bio)

If you like flying triangles but don’t like knocking yourself out when things go wrong, Try this grip. I’ve found this let’s you have a pretty smooth landing. I didn’t edit to explain how my leg is stepping over his back and hanging my weight on him, instead of the usual blindly leaping crotch attack to the face. But that’s important ?? @keenanonline @hyperfly
My creative process caught on camera. One of the most common questions I get is “how do I come up with new Jiujitsu techniques”. I don’t have a lab session or anything special like that. there are no notebooks involved. It happens live when im in a position and nothing is working. That’s when the puzzle reveals itself and it’s up to me to go about solving it. The moments are rare but I just so happened to catch this exact situation on camera at my last seminar while rolling with everyone. I found myself in gubber guard against a very tough brown belt and he was defending all my attacks very well. I saw an opportunity to do a sort of reverse canto choke from the gubber and with a little adjustment I was able to use what I know about the neck and choking mechanics to make it work. Now I’ve added it to the system. Brand new, never done this move before in my life. But here it is. @hyperfly @keenanonline @spyder_korea
