Another dilemma game- whenever you’re passing from a split squat, ultimately you want to use that to force a half guard (in most cases). You see here that Vagner knows this, and understands that if I am able to get my left knee to his right hip that I’ll be able to control him much easier. There is a battle happening for bottom knee position. Vagner is doing his best to extract his knee and post his foot on my hip, I am trying my best to stuff the leg and get my knee to his hip. The issue for the bottom man occurs when you start playing a knee post/cross face dilemma. Vagner has 2 choices in this case. 1- hand fight against my hand posted on his knee so he can extract the bottom leg, or 2- use an inside bicep tie to stop me from cross facing him. The dilemma here is simple- I fight back and forth for knee position at the lower body and control of the head at the upper body. If Vagner fights at the upper body and doesn’t allow me to cross face, I fight the legs and drop into half guard. If Vagner fights me at the lower body and tries to stop my knee from connecting to his hip, he has no ability to stop a cross face from coming on (this is what happened here). Once the cross face comes into play, he has no choice but to use both hands to address the cross face pressure, BUT that now leaves a wide open space for my knee to beat his bottom leg and connect to his hip because he now has his hands occupied at the upper body. During this exchange he got overextended and accidentally got his top (left) arm trapped across the center line. As illustrated yesterday in my previous breakdown, because he now has no ability to fight my knee coming across into 3/4 mount (because his arm is trapped), it was easy to post the knee and slide across. Knowing he is beat from here he gives a final bridge to attempt to create space but I was in such a strong mechanical position it had little effect. Precision of gripping and a game based around dilemmas is a very hard game to counter indeed.

Dilemma game from top half- ever get a cross face but just can’t figure out how to put in an underhook? Don’t, instead, focus on the far knee. The dilemma is simple- if your opponent denies you the underhook by keeping his hand high towards the head and his elbow tight he has no ability to stop you from shoving the far knee down with an inside elbow to easily move to 3/4 mount. If on the other hand he lowers and extend his hand to either post on your knee or hand fight the inside elbow position, he will always then be susceptible to a far side underhook. The price he pays for reaching down with his hand is OVER EXTENSION. He can either fight the knee coming across or fight the underhook coming in, not both.

Here is my match with ralek Gracie. I had a side bet that I could finish him between 10 and 12 minutes with an arm bar or triangle. If I did I’d make an extra 4k$ which at the time was a lot, but it was more about the challenge of it all. Notice how I use a pass off method with the legs to isolate his near side arm from side control. Once the arm is pinned, I use a step over method (because he bridged) to move into triangle territory. A basic dilemma from there- if he stays on his back, ushiro sankaku. If he rolls on top of me, hantai sankaku. I ended up finishing him in 10 and a half minutes with hantai sankaku. Hope you enjoyed the breakdown 😊

Here’s a finishing chest work out. This is a set where I went pretty heavy, which I usually don’t. 185×10, 205×8, 225×6, 275×4, 315×4, 335×2, finished with 225 until failure (17). Current body weight is 220lbs at 6 ft 2 with a 77 inch reach (people always ask in the comments), and I currently can’t eat food 😂. You can also tell I still hate lifting

Seated guard/retention analysis- you see here the top player should never play with a square stance for long amounts of time because it makes it incredibly easy for the bottom player to harass the feet, causing dramatic off balances and over reactions. Here, I use a double koichi to create an initial off balance, followed by a 2 on 1 ankle. Once I dragged cyborg into irimi ashi, he immediately gave the correct counter by attempting to long step over and get 2 of his legs to the same side of my body. I countered the counter by keeping a sticky hook with my right foot, keeping my 2 legs between his, while simultaneously keeping a cross lat post with my right hand, preventing him from establishing upper body inside position. In this 20 second clip, we see counter after counter, recounters at every corner, and high level technique displayed from start to finish by us both. I will soon be releasing a 2017 adcc analysis to see what successes and shortcoming I had that weekend. Basically it’s just an entire video of me berating my former self for being so terrible, you’ll all enjoy it 😂

Some good news- a few hundred thousand people saw this, but 10s of millions missed it. That’s now a non issue. I’m starting a petition to rename ATOS to teamL 😂 you don’t wanna not watch this episode
