This triangle and arm bar are two of my favorite submissions from DLR, whether it’s in the gi or no gi. Obviously a better guard in the gi, but no gi application is still there. Much more on my YouTube channel.

1. Power half to Yoko Sankaku Jime
2. Crotch Lock to Gyaku Sankaku
3. Power half to Crucifix Americana
4. Crucifix Kimura

Try these out on your favorite training partner or closest relative.

Leg Lockers get criticism from Guard Passers, and Passers get criticism from Leg Lockers…but these criticisms typically just come from people who don’t train much anyway. Real practitioners recognize the value and necessity of learned all aspects, and it’s in that vein that I made this video discussing some concepts tying together attacking the legs

The front headlock is inherently a controlling position that possibly even turn into a submission opportunity. Knowing how to defend and counter this hold is crucial in grappling of all styles. Chaining together a classic 50/50 rear takedown with a pass to leg drag back take option, as well as an option for a seated ham sandwich. Always a blast training and exchanging ideas with my @endeavordcf family like @boomboomcheney and @jannettiaaron who is behind the camera in this one.

Sometimes mounting attacks from guard against a hyper-defensive or stalling opponent is difficult, especially in no-gi. Using the modifications and strategies in this video help for that reason. Some of the attacks you will see in this video are:

– Straight Arm Bar
– Triangle Choke
– Omoplata & Omoplata Sweep

The guillotine is one of the most fundamental chokes of submission grappling, and works at every level. It has applications for gi, no gi, mma and self defense. This cradle crucifix entry and control is really one of my favorite things, particularly for this submission sequence.
This was a random moment in a seminar I was teaching on guard passing, of all things at @billjiujitsu in Jacksonville, FL. Fantastic people and awesome place to train there.

My love of cradles started before I discovered people like @neilmelansonmma and @dpetrone_blackoutgrappling but seeing how they have weaponized the cradle really opened my eyes to so much more potential. Those guys are the ones to learn cradle magic from, and I would recommend @baret75 for all things crucifix related, because he is definitely a crucifix master. All that said, this is a setup I have used successfully, so I share it with others.

The most powerful and valuable escape from mount position is definitely the elbow escape and it’s variations. In this video, we look at the specific details of how and when best to apply this escape. Additionally, we look at counters to common obstacles the top opponent might use.

I still get the question quite a bit about the differences between the Anaconda and Darce chokes. It can be a little confusing in the beginning to distinguish these, so here is a short video to help quickly illustrate the difference. Hope this helps!

Getting your guard passed sucks. The problem is that we tend to fight hard to prevent it from happening, only to be exhausted, mentally and physically, when and if it happens. But, by prioritizing your tactics for guard play, guard retention and pass prevention in early to late stages, you can take some of the stress and exhaustion out of the process.
