I see a lot of people try to escape the reverse de la worm guard by pulling their foot out of the wormhole.⠀

While their hearts are in the right place, I commonly see the mistake of bending and turning the knee, which usually will end up with you getting swept and potentially even ankle trapped.⠀

Avoid this by turning your toes towards your opponent while keeping your leg straight so you can free your foot and tactically extricate yourself from the situation.⠀

When passing with the ringworm guard (one of the first established lapel guards) it’s far too common to get tunnel vision on the lapel grip itself.⠀

Dealing with the lapel grip can sometimes be a dogfight and a waste of time and energy, so instead, I employ you to focus your attention towards other areas of the battlefield, such as your opponent’s free hand which they will need to switch grips, and perhaps your own leg. Check it out.⠀
