Physically controlling a smaller subject who is actively resisting can be a very challenging task, especially if the goal is to minimize injury.
In this case, a female assault suspect attempts to flee the scene. Officers go hands-on, and as she continues to fight, they safely take her to the ground. Within seconds, they transition into SafeWrap. When the third officer arrives, he provides immediate assistance, demonstrating the consistency and coordination that SafeWrap training enables.
The officers remain calm throughout the encounter, communicating clearly with each other and the suspect.
Best of all, the suspect is fully controlled and handcuffed on her side—a position that offers significant tactical and medical advantages over traditional prone restraint.
What’s most remarkable is that this is just one of nine successful field deployments of SafeWrap by the Bellevue Police Department (Washington) in the five months since adoption—with zero serious injuries reported.
Even more impressive? In multiple cases, rookie officers used SafeWrap successfully during their first-ever use of force.
Originally developed for safely restraining psychiatric patients in hospitals, the proprietary SafeWrap system is now transforming safety protocols across all industries where physical restraint may be required.
If your agency or organization isn’t yet SafeWrap certified, don’t miss the upcoming 2-day instructor certification course in Torrance, California.

Bellevue Police Officers (Washington) were investigating a DUI. When they attempted to extract the suspect from the vehicle (with a completely blown out front tire), he became combative so they decided to take him to the ground. He continued fighting, so the officers transitioned into SafeWrap and immediately gained full control of the suspect until help arrived and he was taken into custody.
Critical Observations:
-Compliance Through Control: Hope is a function of progress. The suspect fought aggressively as long as he believed escape was possible. Once SafeWrap was applied and he could no longer generate movement, he quickly stopped resisting.
-Critical Communication: When officers panic, communication suffers. SafeWrap provides unmatched physical control, which reduces panic and allows for clear, calm coordination. In this case, officers were able to check on one another, maintain situational awareness, and strategize effectively while waiting for support.
-Safety For All: Once restrained, the suspect could no longer strike officers or access weapons. Because SafeWrap immobilizes the limbs while positioning the suspect on their side, it helps preserve the airway, ensures continuous visibility of the face, and allows for uninterrupted medical monitoring throughout the encounter.
Remarkably, this was Officer Silva’s first-ever use of force. He remained calm and composed throughout the incident—despite having no prior martial arts or fighting experience and only one exposure to SafeWrap during training.
SafeWrap was designed to give restrainers maximum control in the least amount of time, with minimal risk of injury to everyone involved. From law enforcement to healthcare and EMS, SafeWrap is transforming organizations that adopt it.
SafeWrap is patent pending worldwide and requires a license for use. The license is currently available at no cost for law enforcement and first responder agencies—once one or more team members complete the Instructor Certification Program.

Actual footage of a serial carjacker in Los Angeles who was preying on women at gas stations ‼️
🗣️ The most important self-defense tool any woman has is her VOICE. When you set clear, concise, and confident verbal boundaries, it provides three life-saving benefits:
1) It can reveal a perpetrators intentions
2) It shows him that you are NOT the easy target he hoped for, and
3) It draws attention from bystanders who may provide assistance.
Many women hesitate to set verbal boundaries because they are afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. Unfortunately, many have been taught (as children) to prioritize other people’s feelings over our own sense of comfort/safety. But when it comes to personal safety, politeness MUST take a back seat.
The more you invested in physical safety skills, the more comfortable you became setting boundaries with others (because you know you can back them up).
Ladies, kickoff the new year with us at our free 2.5-hour women’s self-defense seminar at 3pm on Sunday, July 13th, 2025, in Torrance, CA, and at select Certified Training Centers around the world.

The Los Angeles Police Department had their lead arrest and control instructors trained in new SafeWrap system to explore the possibility of training all officers in the system.
SafeWrap is a proprietary system of restraint that is designed to maximize physical control while reducing the risk of injury to all parties involved in a use of force encounter.
The system was created by Gracie University in response to inquiries from healthcare institutions that needed a way to safely restrain aggressive, suicidal, or emotionally disturbed patients in hospitals. With patient safety as the top priority, it was imperative that the system utilize no joint locks, no choke holds, and no strikes. The system was specifically designed to minimize compression of the diaphragm to facilitate free breathing and reduce the potential of a panicked response in the restrained individual.
Due to the tremendous success of its application, it was quickly realized that SafeWrap had the potential to facilitate improved outcomes across various public and private sector organizations, while maintaining the public’s confidence in the frontline personnel of these organizations. Institutional applications include, but are not limited to: Law Enforcement, Corrections, Probation/Parole, Fire / EMS, Healthcare, Security, Flight Attendants, Elderly Care, Education, and Childcare.
The SafeWrap system is patent pending worldwide and requires a license for institutional use. The benefit of the license is that it allows Gracie University to stipulate the terms of the system’s use, particularly as it pertains to minimum training requirements, to ensure that end-users are sufficiently trained in this potentially life-saving system.
Gracie University is actively gathering data on the system’s effectiveness. For this reason, there is currently no cost for “early adopter” military, law enforcement, and first responder organizations to acquire a SafeWrap license.
