What you should be working on at each level.
If you get stuck in the high mount this can bail you out. It’s a bit risky but hey, so is being stuck in the high mount!

A lot of people argue it’s one or the other, I think that’s the wrong argument. They both can coexist. The sport application of jiu-jitsu was meant to develop the street capabilities.
When you should train and when you shouldn’t.
These few details have helped me tremendously over the years when using the elbow escape against a larger person.
My wife was training with one of her friends and was attempting to elbow escape from the mount. Her friend responded by going to modified mount ( sliding the back knee behind the head and bringing the knee off the floor and foot to the hip) to shut down the elbow escape. We covered this defense in our lesson and wanted to share it.
If you are starting jiu-jitsu but not sure what to expect on your 1st day, this video can help. All the basic positions and movements are covered here.

In our last video we showed a basic hook sweep. Here’s a good way to shut it down once you start to leave the ground.

This is a simple and basic hook sweep but I hit it all the time. If you follow through with the bottom foot and keep following it you’ll have a lot of success.
Here is a simple triangle choke setup when your opponent is inside your guard with a knee in the middle. The follow up sweep when they try to stop it is very simple.
