#jiujitsu side control escape tips

The ‘surprise armbar’ escape from side control is great technique for two reasons. First, it’s a a totally valid escape that’s actually much easier to do than it looks, and second, it trains many of the movements and adjustments you need to master in order to do other, more conventional escapes like the elbow-knee escape from side control. Check out the full pin escapes program here: https://www.grapplearts.com/PinEscapes!
Good luck with your training,

Sometimes it is difficult to get back to the guard from side control when your opponent blocks your hips effectively. If you have already gotten to your side it can be a good option to escape to your knees to have more opportunities for escape.
In this video we show some options on how to re-guard, sit through armlock and a bonus technique to end up in mount.

I remember seeing this side control reversal for the first time years back in the clip referenced in this video. I studied it and use it still to this day. Itβs pretty slick and broken down into further detail in my instructional βEscapes and Attacks from Bottom Side Controlβ available @bjj.fanatics

For the holiday season, we are calling this one the Ghost of Christmas Past Escape. The ghost escape can result in the front headlock, and from there, a great (and underused) option is the knee tap. Hope you like it! π π» π»
Big thanks to @xmartialofficial for the Santa themed rashie and shorts kit. Theyβve always got the best gear!
Thank you to Shawn @kwik.bit for the uke services and always being a great rolling buddy at the amazing @charlottejiujitsuacademy open mats.

Today’s question comes from Levi Schwartz:
He asks for me to show a back take that he saw me hit while watching a recent BJJ rolling video of mine here on the YouTube.
The Back Take came from a scramble with one of my Jiu-Jitsu Brown Belts, Charlie, and in this video, I’ll show you how I set it up & how you can look for it, should you have the chance to do it while rolling.
The position we work from to get into this back take has a lot of names in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
But it essentially started from my partners hip switch, from side control to reverse side control, which exposed his back and gave me the space I needed to execute the technique.
I did this technique in the Gi, while rolling, but you can modify it for No-GI Jiu-Jitsu as well, which is what I do in this video.
Hopefully you guys enjoyed the technique!

Some people call it cross side, side body or side control. It’s essentially all the same. It’s a pinning position with many different ways to pin the person flat on their back while using their weight and position to control and attack their opponent. It can be difficult to escape when your are flat but there are some easy escapes when your opponent tries to progress their position by going to the mount. These surprise escapes require proper timing to perform to when done right they are my favorite ways to escape.
