Healthcare accounts for 73% of all workplace violence incidents, and workers in this field are five times more likely to be attacked than those in any other profession. Unfortunately, the violence continues to rise each year.
Current workplace violence prevention programs are outdated and ineffective, leading to serious injuries for both patients and staff, and contributing to a growing number of healthcare professionals leaving the field.
Gracie Medical Defense (GMD) aims to transform healthcare by offering comprehensive safety solutions that actually work. GMD focuses on threat assessment, verbal de-escalation and distance management as top priorities, while also teaching physical de-escalation techniques for worst-case scenarios in standing, bedside, and grounded encounters.
Using a train-the-trainer model, GMD empowers healthcare institutions to spread these life-saving skills to all their staff members. Once certified, all employees gain 24/7 online access to the full GMD curriculum, enabling individualized training even when in-person sessions are not possible.
With over 100 years of experience in overcoming violence through physical de-escalation and control, the Gracie family is finally bringing its knowledge and expertise to where it’s needed most.
Don’t miss the first 5-Day GMD Instructor Certification Program.

Rener and Ryron were invited to present the SafeWrap system at the 2025 APPA (American Probation and Parole Association). To start they called two volunteers officers out of the crowd to arrest Rener and after that, Rener and Ryron demonstrated how the SafeWrap system can be used to achieve the goal in less time and with lower risk of injury.
After the presentation, audience members were given a chance to experience the SafeWrap system first hand. Not a single person escaped, everyone got handcuffed, no one got injured.
SafeWrap is a proprietary system of 2-on-1 restraint that requires a license for institutional use in order to ensure licensed organizations provide certain minimum annual training to end-users.
SafeWrap instructor certification can be achieved in any GST Level 2 instructor course or in the standalone 2-day SafeWrap instructor course. Learn more at http://www.SafeWrapSystem.com

The most common mistake by police officers in grounded altercations is what we call “premature pronation.” This happens when an officer hasn’t learned basic ground control and/or the “100-Second Rule.”
This officer in Mesquite, Texas, was initially able to get the subject to his back, but then then immediately attempts to pronate the subject (as indicated by the two arms controlling the wrist and elbow of the subject). As soon as the officer rolls the subject to his belly, he immediately builds the house, stands up and runs accross the highway as the officer draws his firearm and chases after.
To avoid situations like this, every officer must understand three primary ground controls: Kneeling Control, Side Control, and Mount Control, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each position.
Kneeling control gives an officer the ability to survey their surroundings while controlling the subject with their knee. Due to limited body contact, however, the officer will often struggle to maintain control if the subject is larger and determined to get up.
Side control gives the officer a greater degree of control, particularly against larger subjects, because the officers’ center of gravity is lower and their base points are wider, but in this position, the officer’s ability to survey their surroundings is reduced.
Mount control also limits visibility but can be very effective for control if the officer is properly trained on how to use their legs or “hooks” to prevent lateral escapes.
Weapon retention must be prioritized in all three positions. This can come from underhooks, wrist pins or any other methods of arm control designed to limit the subject’s arm mobility.
Regardless of the position of control the “100-Second Rule” teaches that the subject should not be pronated until AFTER their will to fight has been drastically if not entirely reduced.
We don’t have any additional information on this incident, but if anyone has contact with the officer in this video, please let him know that we’d like to sponsor his participation in the GST Instructor Certification Course.

Saturday morning arresting random people in Santa Monica using SafeWrap, and Sergio was sitting on his bike watching for hours without volunteering, so we had to approach him.
Turns out of all the people we arrested that morning, he was the most resistant. He wanted the $1,000 cash prize the most and really believed he could get out. In fact, when we transitioned into the lateral handcuffing procedure, he tried to rip away. Thankfully the crossover leg control of the SafeWrap System prevented him from going anywhere and we were able to handcuff him without further incident.
SafeWrap is a groundbreaking new method of 2-on-1 restraint that utilizes no joint locks, no choke holds, no strikes, and is designed to maximize subject control while minimizing injuries to officers and civilians during use of force encounters.
This proprietary restraint system requires a license for use which is now available for free to all law enforcement, military and first responder organizations. Learn more at https://www.SafeWrapSystem.com.

Actual footage of a serial carjacker in Los Angeles who was preying on women at gas stations.
🗣️ The most important self-defense tool any woman has is her VOICE. When you set clear, concise, and confident verbal boundaries it provides three life-saving benefits:
1) It can reveal a perpetrators intentions
2) It shows him that you are NOT the easy target he hoped for, and
3) It draws attention from bystanders who may provide assistance.
Many women hesitate to set verbal boundaries because they are afraid to hurt someone’s feelings. Unfortunately, many women have been taught (as children) to prioritize other people’s feelings over our own sense of comfort/safety. But when it comes to personal safety, politeness MUST take a back seat.
The most powerful way for anyone to be able to use their voice is through physical empowerment. The more you invest in physical safety skills, the more comfortable you become setting boundaries with others.
Ladies, kickoff the new year with us at our free 2.5-hour women’s self-defense seminar at 3pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025, in Torrance, CA, and at select Certified Training Centers around the world.

This one of the most shocking videos of assault we’ve ever seen.
On November 7, 2024, D’Andre Johnson arrives at a the Department of Child Safety in Mesa, Arizona, to meet with a DCS government employee about his open case involving his children, and he streams the entire meeting on facebook.
At the end of the hour-long meeting, they stand up, and after a fist bump, he puts the case-worker into a standing Rear Naked Choke and holds the choke for nearly two minutes.
Throughout this time many people called police and you can hear other people attempting to intervene verbally but no-one took physical action.
Thankfully the victim survived but doctors stated that his injuries were nearly fatal.
If anyone has a connection to the Arizona Department of Child Safety, please connect them with Gracie University so we can sponsor their instructors to attend the upcoming 2-day SafeWrap Instructor Certification Program on March 25-25, 2025, hosted by the Los Angeles Police Dept and taught by Rener and Ryron Gracie.

Police Officers in the UK struggled to take down a subject so they started beating him with their collapsable steel batons, but he hardly flinched.
If anyone has a relationship with the command staff at the Metropolitan Police Service (or any other agencies in the UK), please contact Gracie University so that we can certify their instructors in the SafeWrap system.

Cop wants the subject’s hands behind his back, so he punches him in the head. Subject is blocking the punches, so he can’t put his hands behind his back. Cop is frustrated so he punches harder…and the cycle continues.
Eventually the person recording says the most logical thing of all time: “You gotta stop punching him first!”
It’s sad that the civilian bystander had to be the voice of reason in this case, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

SafeWrap is a proprietary system of lateral restraint by which two people can effectively and safely subdue an aggressive, suicidal, or emotionally disturbed person for an extended period of time while greatly reducing the risks of injury to all parties involved.
The system is effective enough for law enforcement use and safe enough for healthcare applications, as it utilizes zero joint locks or choke holds; the system is designed to avoid compression on the diaphragm, facilitating breathing and greatly reducing the potential of a panicked response by the person being restrained.
The SafeWrap system was originally designed for healthcare and law enforcement professionals, but it was so effective that it quickly became clear that it had the potential to save lives in every sector. From first responders to security guards to educators to retail workers, any organization that requires its employees to interact with civilians would benefit from having its staff members certified in the SafeWrap System.
SafeWrap is patent pending worldwide, and in order to ensure that the life-saving characteristics of the system are effectively upheld by all certified instructors, the system requires a license for institutional use.
