Recently, my buddy Adam who was promoted to BJJ Black Belt.

At out gym walks the gauntlet for Belt Promotions.

This Belt Promotion was absolutely nuts!

It left me speechless.

I’ve never seen someone walk the gauntlet in that manner.

Adam is crazy.

Yesterday I had the pleasure of promoting my good friend Adam to Black Belt in BJJ.

As a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu coach, I desperately hope I’m not only helping make my students better at BJJ. But I also hope that I’m making a positive impact on their life in some way outside of the gym.

Everyone has their mission and that’s mine.

When Adam gave his Black Belt speech about what it means to be a BJJ Black Belt at least to him, I was moved. Because of the way he felt for me and all of the other people on the team.

You’ll see it on my face, I became watery eyed.

For me, that lets me now I’m on the right track.

In regards to Adam himself. There is so much I could say about him.

In fact, it’s difficult to condense your feelings and memories down to a simple post.

So I won’t try today.

Instead, I’ll just say that I’m proud of Adam, and I am so very thankful that he found his way to our gym 9 years ago.

He’s been one of my best training partners, someone I look forward to seeing on a regular basis and we’ve had some fun times together.

Congratulations to Adam! I’m proud of him. As a coach, brother in arms and friend.

Grande mestre Robson Gracie, presidente da FJJ-Rio, apareceu no evento para diplomar os mestres Leão Teixeira e Marcio “Macarrão” Stambowsky. Mestre Teixeira recebeu o diploma referente ao seu sexto grau, representado pela faixa-coral de Jiu-Jitsu, enquanto Marcio obteve o diploma de oitavo grau, que refere à faixa vermelha e branca.

Ricardo Delariva gets his Red & Black Belt from 2 Red Belts in front of his family and students. Delariva reached this pinnacle in his career after more than 3 decades as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and creating multiple world champions.

The ceremony took place at Rio Othon Hotel in Copacana.

O renomado mestre Ricardo De La Riva será graduado neste domingo (19), às 10h, em Copacabana (RJ), com a faixa-coral (vermelha e preta). Criador da “Guarda De La Riva”, Ricardo se juntará a um seleto grupo de apenas 22 pessoas agraciadas com o 7º dan do jiu-jitsu em todo o mundo. A graduação acontece durante o 1° Encontro de Escolas Afiliadas Delariva, que será realizado neste fim de semana (18 e 19).

O evento contará com presenças ilustres da nova e velha geração da arte suave. Entre os presentes estarão: Reyson Gracie, Robson Gracie, Murilo Bustamante, Bebeo Duarte, Carlão Barreto, Fernando Pinduka, Amaury Bitetti, Rogério Minotouro, Paulão Filho e Cláudia do Val.

O encontro reunirá em seu primeiro dia representantes de todas as 70 academias DELARIVA espalhadas pelo planeta (39 no Brasil e 31 no exterior). Já no segundo, que será aberto para todo o público, acontecerá a cerimônia de graduação, um almoço de confraternização e o primeiro seminário ministrado por Ricardo De La Riva graduado com a faixa-coral.

Aqueles que tiverem interesse participar do seminário podem ser inscrever pelo site http://delariva.com.br/. O custo é de R$ 200,00 (seminário+almoço). Para quem quiser participar apenas do almoço de confraternização, o preço será de R$ 120,00. Já a graduação terá entrada gratuita (local sujeito a lotação).
