Three responses to single leg X.
1. Clear to drop pass 2. Lins Lock 3. Twister back take
This Video World Champion Sebastian Serpa shows one of his most effective systems for taking the back. Most people think of the X Guard as a purely sweeping position, but this system Sebastian used makes it so easy to take the back. The benefit is that if you have a really difficult opponent with a tough guard instead of having to pass after sweeping you can just end the match immediately by going to the back. We show his system as well as some of our favorite ways for setting up the single leg x position.

If you’ve spent much time under heavy people in side control, you’ve likely put your elbows through hell framing at some point. This leads to some tendon strain and possible other injuries and chronic conditions. In this video, I talk with Dr Carlos about chronic elbow pain I’ve developed over the years, why it has happened, and then we kick it to his channel (link at the end) to see what can be done to help this. Hope you like this series!
HUGE shoutout to BJJ Physio for doing these collaborations & to MUSA Visual Media for the amazing filming and editing. Stay tuned for more of these collaborations over the next few weeks! The link for the medical breakdown of this rolling kimura is at the end of this video.

If you have any confusion on where, when and how to transition to various types of open guard, or even what the difference is between various types, this video is a good, quick reference to help. Short clip from my recent x-guard & leglocks seminar at Capital MMA. I love this nasty lock. It has a ton of names like sock-lock, Lins Lock, corkscrew, Moose Lock, etc. I learned it years ago and have gotten some great details on it from brilliant minds. The full seminar is coming to my Patreon soon.

This video I show the cross sleeve sit up guard system, in my opinion the cross sleeve sit up guard is one of the most powerful attack combos in all of jiu jitsu. Once your opponent postures and exposes this attack its almost always a sweep or back take. It was made popular by cobrinha and I have been using it for the last 10 years. I hope you enjoy the details.

Here’s an awesome Open Guard Drill to improve your transitions and control. The Open Guard is one of the most difficult guards to master in BJJ since there are so many options, and you can easily get overwhelmed.
In this open guard drill you will go through many guards, including reverse De La Riva, regular De La Riva, Lasso, Spider, Single Leg X, and X-Guard.
Try this drill with your partner and let me know how it goes!

Here are 2 options on how to take the back from X-Guard, either reaching for your opponent’s hips and pulling him down, or pushing him forward and coming on top.
These are great No-Gi options, where we don’t have the luxury of reaching for our opponent’s belt/gi in order to take his back.
