The Arm Triangle (side choke) is an exercise in patience, particularly when dealing with a much larger and stronger opponent.
A good choke is made like good BBQ: Slow and Low
You gotta cook him for a while and soften him up before you lay the squeeze on him.
Then when the time has come to squeeze, it’s a murder.
Enjoy

⚠️ Warning: Lots of 10th Planet Words. Proceed with caution ⚠️
A lot of times when I’m playing the Rubber Guard, I’m looking for that far side arm lock (AKA The Croc) ? Particularly if I have the Double Bagger locked in, as I do here.
The purpose of the Double Bagger is to prevent the opponent from forcing the Omoplata system, which is usually easier to escape. Even if you don’t escape from the Omoplata style plays, you can force the roll and end up on bottom of a Sweep, which is a way better option than simply getting tapped in the Rubber Guard.
From the Double Bagger, if the opponent pressures back in and tries to force me to play flat on my back, he will almost always expose an opportunity for me to transition into Muddy Waters and develop a very secure arm lock.
In this case, he knows that if he keeps my right leg trapped, I won’t be able to make that switch to the Muddy Waters. So, he opts to drop his head and play a waiting game.
I need a little more hip mobility in this case, so I move to London (aka Williams Guard) to create the Armlock opportunity. This gives him a brief window to cartwheel over and force me to bail on the guard, but he doesn’t take advantage.
He’s fully committed to burying his head, so I switch to a Belly Down Sweep and end up sitting on his chest, where a transition to the triangle is very easy.
He fights me over to my back, and I use that same Belly Down Sweep, now with the Triangle fully locked, to get on top and finish.

I’m a big believer in constant pressure. I actually don’t care if it takes me an hour to pass your guard. I’m gonna make you regret being there the entire time. In theory, at least.
This is a great example of some of my strategy at play during live training.
I constantly make the opponent wear my weight, preferably against his levers. Neck cranks. Grinding. Eventually he opts to try a half guard to alleviate the suffering. This is the begging of the end.
From the mount, I offer him the Arm Triangle, but he opts for the neck crank instead. This leads me into a more classical Brazilian Jiu Jitsu style finishing sequence, but one that flows efficiently from the Catch Wrestling style misery that he was previously enduring.
“Brandon, aren’t you worried about the Armlock?”
Absolutely not.
Enjoy.
